This project has been on hiatus for a while, but I had a few renders I've been meaning to post. Hoping to get back on this soon after working Polycount's Escape contest...

I've been meaning to do a bit of Myst fan art for years but kept putting it on the backburner. Now it is my mission to do a set of 3 characters from the Myst series and bring them to game res... If that pans out, I'd like to do a small environment that may also reflect this interpretation of some of my favorite characters.
I think I've finally nailed down my plan for the wardrobe, so I launched into the bust this weekend. I'll probably develop this as a separate piece before doing the entire character. Here's an early WIP.

Looking back into my older artwork I realized there's a lot of work I haven't shown on the blog. This includes part of my alternative process when designing my own concepts and characters.
First up is an early environment from the school days. Reproduction of an environment from a photograph.
Here is a low-poly character from school based on a character from the novel Water For Elephants. Based on a concept by Anthony Ashton.
The first step is developing a strong silhouette from which I can then produce lines on top of and finish with some paint. I used this process towards a rough concept that was abandoned during Dominance War IV, an online art contest at GameArtisans.
I decided to go with Gravethorn at the time, but I do hope to someday return to this concept as a personal project.

The deadline for Dominance War IV is tomorrow, but I am wrapping up early so that I can get some other projects done for finals. I learned a lot this year about my strengths and weaknesses, and am looking forward to DW5! I believe I want to use DW as a yearly milestone landmark, so I will push myself each year with such contests. Can't wait to stuff my brain for next year!
